ABOUT THIS SITE
In September 2016, I traveled to Hanoi, Vietnam as a Fulbright Distinguished Teacher. My proposal for this grant included teaching a series of poetry lessons and creating this poetry-sharing website to develop students’ global competencies by helping them understand points of view from people around the world.
This site includes poems from students at Nguyễn Tất Thành School in Hanoi, and the Hanoi National University of Education. I have worked with students from grades 7, 9, 10, 11 and one university level English class. Poems from more students and other contributors will be added as they are received.
Teachers are encouraged to use and adapt the poetry lesson plans for their students. More information about my Fulbright project can also be found in the Teachers' section.
Everyone is welcome to contribute poems to the site!

A NOTE ABOUT LEAVING COMMENTS
The student authors on this site would love to hear your comments, and they would love to read your poems as well! Please keep in mind the following when commenting on student poems.
Finally, in 2021, I transferred this project to this new website on Weebly. Unfortunately, I was not able to transfer the nearly 1000 comments that had previously been left on the site. This new site is still active - feel free to comment on poems or submit your own!
- Writers like specific comments. Instead of saying, "Nice poem," try starting your comment with, "I like the line/word/part . . .". Or try one of the following ideas:
- Ask the writer a question.
- Tell them how the poem made you feel.
- Tell them your favorite line.
- Write a short poem back to them.
- Explain what the poem reminds you of.
- Try your own idea. Comments do not need to be long to be effective, just specific.
- Keep in mind that this website is about connecting students through poetry. It is not a site for criticizing writing, but for learning about each other. Remember that many poems were written by students whose first language is not English.
- Of course, do not use language that would be considered offensive or rude. If it is not something that would be appropriate to say in school or in person to the author, then don't write it here.
